York City vs Kidderminster Harriers. 11-08-23. Match preview

We’ll be travelling up to York tomorrow without our captain Shane Byrne following the knee injury he picked up in a goal line collision with goalkeeper Christian Dibble last Saturday. The news is that it’s been confirmed that he has a LCL injury along with a couple of small bone fractures in his knee and that has put a bit of a dampener on our brilliant opening draw at home to highly fancied Woking FC.

Shane could be out until Christmas but hopefully he can make a return a little sooner than that. Meanwhile the talk is of who could replace him without going into the loan market and the favoured option seems to be Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain with Alex Penny replacing the Ox at the back.

As for last Saturdays game it was one that on a more weather friendly day we could have won. We had more of the play and more of the chances with the closest being Ashley Hemmings hitting the crossbar minutes from the end. That end was nine minutes coming though due to the extra time added on by the referee who had also turned down a certain penalty for us just minutes earlier.

We can now go, in full confidence, to York tomorrow and hopefully repeat our result from two seasons ago at their new stadium. It was a week earlier in 2021 that we had the pleasure of being the first team to play at the new ground and also the first team to beat them there. Shades of Darlington?

We’ll be wearing our new away kit for the game and having seen the first images of it yesterday then I have to say that it looks stunning. I might even be tempted to get one for myself.
