Ian Foster was first signed by Jan Molby in August 1999. In his first four seasons at Aggborough he was badly hit by injuries but when he did play he could be expected to be on the scoresheet.

He finished as the Harriers top scorer in the 2001-02 season with 10 goals. At the end of the 02-03 season Ian was released by the club and joined Chester City in the Conference. Surprisingly he was then sent back to us on loan in the second half of the following season to help in our struggle against relegation but he blotted his copy book when he was sent off for throwing a punch at Efe Sodje during the Huddersfield Town game on Easter Monday 2004.

This still didn’t deter Jan Molby from signing him on a one year contract the following season after Chester released him but he only lasted another year before he was released by Stuart Watkiss at the end of the season.

He returned to the club once more soon after to take up the post of Club Physio after Jimmy Conway left and did the job for two years before he left to join Jeff Kenna at Galway in Ireland. He then took over the management of the club for one season before joining rivals Dundalk as their manager for the following season.

He has since become the holder of a UEFA Pro Licence, the highest qualification in football coaching, and has gone on to coaching jobs at Coventry City, Portsmouth and England.

In January 2024 he was surprisingly offered the Plymouth Argyle managers job and accepted it but only three months later lost it.
