21-02-20 - Preview - Kidderminster Harriers Vs York City

The Harriers welcome second placed York City to Aggborough tomorrow afternoon and they’ll be hoping to put a dent in their promotion hopes. Those hopes received a major boost on Tuesday when leaders Kings Lynn Town lost at third placed Chester FC. That defeat saw York remain one point behind Lynn but having played two games more.

It’s now up to us to make that gap wider and build on the brilliant 1-1 result that we earned at York back in November and at the same time draw us closer to, or above, the teams in front of us. Namely Alfreton Town and AFC Telford Utd. A win would see us climb above Telford if they, as expected, lose at Boston Utd and put us two points behind Alfreton if they too lose at Spennymoor Town. Both clubs do have games in hand over us though.

We could still be without Declan Weeks and Samir Nabi with them both having been out for a while now. Weeks’ toe injury is slow in responding to treatment while Nabi is back in training following his hamstring injury.

City have no known injury problems but will be without Tom Allan after he was loaned out to Scarborough Athletic for a month.

Ironically this will be the Harriers latest manager, Russ Penns’ second game in a row against one of his former clubs. Last week he led the lads to a hard earned 0-0 draw at his former employers, Gateshead, in a game that was one of the few to beat Storm Dennis. Now he’ll be wanting to go one better against another former club.

With heavy rain forecast for the weekend it’s to be hoped that this game will get the go ahead or will it be a case of a game under the lights in the near future. Whatever happens it would be good to get a rare home win at Aggborough and also to continue the better run of form that we’re in at the moment.

STOP PRESS: Harriers sign Alex Penny from Boston Utd on a long contract along with Lewis Miccio, An Australian defender.
