Match preview Vs York City Venue: Aggborough Date: 22-01-22 Kick off: 15:00hrs |
Preview: Phil Lench
The Harriers long unbeaten run came to an end at a fogbound Hereford FC on Tuesday evening and now the Reds will be looking to get back to winning ways tomorrow when York City arrive at Aggborough.
This will be our first return game of the season after we opened the season at their new ground, the LNER Community Stadium, back in August. As is usual, with the Harriers, new stadium openings don’t quite go to plan for their proud new owners and that game was no different with us running out 2-1 winners and easy winners at that. That win gave us hope that the new season would be the sign of things to come and so it has proved.
It was also a sign of things to come for York and their season, so far, has been nothing short of disappointment. They have improved in recent weeks but for much of the time they’ve been down at the bottom of the table. Now up to thirteenth they seem to have found their level.
Last Saturday they went through to the next round of the FA Trophy with a narrow 1-0 win at home to Slough Town. Their goal was scored by the veteran Clayton Donaldson – coming up to his thirty eighth birthday soon – and they also saw a return from injury for Oliver Dyson. They’ll be without Josh King who has a broken fibula and Michael Woods is missing with an achilles injury.
At the start of the Hereford game Ethan Freemantle left the field with a limp. Hopefully that was just a precaution and nothing worse. Nathan Cameron is supposed to be back in the team for tomorrow but I’ve heard that it may be a bit longer while we also had injuries for Lewis Montrose, again, and also our new loan signing Devonte Redmond.
We knew that with this amount of games – eight in the space of thirty days – that there would be minor injuries and fatigue within the team. As long as it’s managed sensibly then we should be ok but bringing someone in on loan only for him to get injured in training is not good.
Can we get back on track with a win, and the double, against York? Yes I think we should be able to manage that easily enough as long as we stop them scoring their usual solitary goal every other game.
STOP PRESS: Matt Preston comes in on loan. Does this mean Nathan Cameron is out for a while?
