06-12-22. Match preview Vs Chester FC

Preview: Phil Lench

The BT Sport TV cameras will be at Aggborough tomorrow evening to broadcast our game against Chester FC to the nation. I just hope they know what they’re doing because I’m sure that most people will have have had enough of football for a while and would be looking for a break from it. Still, as long as we can make some money from it and also win the game then it’ll have all been worth it.

Jack Bearne
Jack Bearne….
he gets everywhere

Talking of winning do we really have a chance bearing in mind our poor form of late and Chesters resurgence up into fourth place in the table from a low of sixteenth at the start of November. We, on the other hand, slumped from seventh to fifteenth with a slight recovery to twelth following the draw at Alfreton Town last Friday.

We now have to make sure that we don’t let our world wide captive audience down and deliver on the night.

At Alfreton we saw a jigged around side perform ok at the back, much improved in the centre of the park but absolutely dire in front of goal. The only one’s to come out of the draw with credit were Joe Leesley at full back in the first half then midfield in the second along with Jack Bearne who was excellent in attack, midfield and defence. The only place that he didn’t take any part in was in goal but eventually he tired of all the running around and doing all the work.

Yes, I’ll say it again but we BLOODY WELL NEED ANOTHER STRIKER!!!!!

We’ve had our fair shares of injuries with both Alex Penny and Nathaniel Knight-Percival both out long term but we didn’t need yet another bad injury to Ethan Freemantle who was again – just like at Buxton – taken to hospital with a head injury. Last time it was for a bad cut above his eye but this time it’s just thought to be for concussion.

As said Chesters surge up the table is largely down to the presence of Kurt Willoughby leading the line for them. His eighteen goals in twenty seven games is something that we can only be in envy of and those goals have drawn the attention of Oldham Athletic who are thought to be about to table a bid for him. Hopefully before tomorrow evening.

They also have Declan Weeks with them and we all know how we were missing a player like him up until the arrival of Leesley a few weeks ago.

It’s going to be cold tomorrow evening so wrap up warm and also make sure to get there before the 7.30pm kick off. Fingers crossed we can get a long overdue home win.
