03-03-23. Match preview Vs Boston Utd

Preview: Phil Lench

Hopes are definitely not high of the Harriers getting anything from this game at home to Boston Utd at Aggborough tomorrow afternoon. It would be great to be confident but our results at home do not encourage such confidence because basically we’re shit!

Kobe Hall
Kobe Hall ….
at least he cared

Just the one win at home so far this year – against Bradford PA on January 31st – making that the only one since we beat Chorley FC way, way back in October is no way to give one the faith that we could actually beat struggling Boston tomorrow. Even more so that they’ve now realised that they’re heading for relegation and have pulled off three big wins against promotion candidates Darlington FC, Brackley Town and Chorley in recent weeks. The one blessing is that the win at Chorley last Tuesday was only their third this season.

We didn’t play mid-week but last Saturday we did turn in a spirited performance to get a point at Darlington but that was away from home and was a great reflection of our Jekyll & Hyde form. It may have been a goal less draw but it was worked hard for.

Actually we did play on Tuesday in the ‘meaningless’ Worcestershire Senior Cup, against Stourport Swifts, and that’s the way the club treated it. Some intention was shown with six first teamers starting along with fringe striker Kobe Hall. By all accounts the first team players couldn’t have given a damn and would rather have been at home watching Love Island. Luckily for us Kobe doesn’t watch such rubbish and scored our only goal in the 2-1 defeat.

Last time at home we turned in an equally abysmal showing against Banbury Utd and deservedly lost that. Russ Penn said in the dressing room afterwards that he was dismayed at that and he didn’t want to see that kind of result again. Just hope they were listening then.

Injuries we should have just the one to Joe McGlynn but no doubt someone’s got injured in training. Last week it was goalkeeper Christian Dibble so hopefully he’s now recovered and he’ll be back between the sticks tomorrow. Joe Leesley, formerly of Boston, is still out long term. Nathaniel Knight-Percival will be out serving his one match ban for the sending off against Chorley.

Boston have a couple missing with Jo Cummings (hamstring) and Scott Pollock (knee) both out while there’ll be a fitness test for striker Jordan Burrow following his short time out injured.

We can only hope that we’ve taken a leaf out of the Boston book and have realised that this season has been a disaster and it’s time some fingers got pulled out.
