It looks like we’ll be looking forwards to more hoofing the ball up to an out wide centre forward tomorrow who then has to try and lay the ball off into the area to someone else that isn’t a striker and hoping that he’ll have actually got there to receive the ball in the first place.

Or we might find that same centre forward stood on the halfway line as the ball goes over his head and he then has to get his ageing legs working to chase the ball and hopefully score.

Yes, you’ve guessed right, we’re still waiting for the long expected striker to save our quickly fading season. A season that promised so much but has actually delivered so little.

Tomorrow Dagenham & Redbridge FC come to town and it’s long been a game that we have marked down as winnable but, going by previous games that we were expected to win, it never pans out that way. No doubt we’ll huff and puff to get in front of their goal and find that, yet again, we have no one capable of putting the ball into the net. Then Daggers will go and score their only goal of the game and we’re back at square one again, or is that still in 24th place in the table?

No doubt you’re thinking that the author of this piece is going a bit overboard and being a little harsh on the team but were you at Aldershot Town last week?

You can say that we were hoping to sign a striker this week and Russ Penn hinted at such following that game last Saturday. We all knew that he was referring to Akwasi Asante but then the former Red signed for, also, struggling Darlington FC instead and RP’s plan A had gone North. Go for plan B then but did he have one. I think not.

Time is running out Russ!

It’ll be a home debut for Ben Tollitt in this game and he did look useful at Aldershot but again it was a ‘strikeforce’ not being on the same wavelength that let us down. Jack Lambert made his comeback from injury late on but the game was gone by then and his five minutes was only enough to loosen up some of his cobwebs.

The usual faces are still out with no sign of return just yet so it’s up to those that played last Saturday to get us out of this mess.

Disclaimer: I may sound a little grouchy in this but I feel it’s time to let my feelings be known. We’ll go and sign a striker later today now!
