The highly rated youngster Marc Pugh came to the Harriers for a one month loan on the recommendation of former Harrier Mark Yates who, at the time, was a reserve team coach at Marcs club, Burnley. Although he never made an appearance for the Burnley first team Marc scored a remarkable fifteen goals in eleven games for the reserve/youth side. In his two months at Aggborough he scored just one goal but he’ll always be remembered for a bit of ‘showboating’ when he flicked the ball over a Dagenham defenders head with the back of his heel, ran past him, collected the ball and crossed it for Iyseden Christie to score. He had already scored earlier in the game on the stroke of half time. Marc eventually left Burnley to sign for League 2 side Bury and then moved around the lower clubs on free transfers or loans. It was when he signed for Hereford Utd in March 2009 that his career became the dream of every footballer and he signed for AFC Bournemouth who had just been promoted from League 2 for a fee of £100,000. Since then he stayed with Bournemouth all the way up to the Premiership and became a regular Premier League star for the following nine years. Towards the end of his time with the Cherries he joined Hull City on loan for a short period. |
