Date: 11-11-23 Match preview Vs Aldershot Town Venue: Recreation Ground Kick off: 15:00hrs |
Preview: Phil Lench
The Harriers travel to the team that put seven goals past League Two side Swindon Town in the FA Cup last weekend and so creating a new record of a current non league team scoring the most goals against a current league club. That team was Aldershot Town and we can only hope that rush of blood to the head has now passed and they’ll be happy with a single goal against us but giving us two in return.
We’ll have at least one new signing going down to Hampshire tomorrow following the arrival of Ben Tollitt on loan from Oldham Athletic on Tuesday. We’re also supposed to be signing a lethal scoring striker but that seems to have been postponed until next week now according to the official websites ‘preview’. It’s looking odds on to be our former striker Akwasi Asante who was with us back in the 2014-15 season when he played in twelve games without finding the back of the net.
He was released by his club, Chesterfield, on Wednesday following an ACL injury many months ago that he hadn’t recovered from. In fact instead of making his comeback he was frozen out, not given a shirt number and told to train with the youth team. If he does come to us then he certainly won’t be fit so won’t start for a while and leave us wondering why he was signed when we find ourselves in such a precarious situation at the foot of the table. There has to be someone better out there.
Going out of the club in the past few days have been the two youngsters, Kobe Hall and Samson Hewett, who have both gone to Bromsgrove Sporting until the New Year. It’s Kobe’s first loan spell while Samson has just returned from Lye Town after playing five games for them but not scoring.
Also going out, surprisingly, was Kieran Phillips who has joined up with Havant & Waterlooville until the New Year. He’s never been given a sporting chance up till now with the fans pleading for him to start alongside Amari Morgan-Smith and not simply replacing him but Russ Penn was not seeing it that way. Surely it could have been tried to see if it would solve our scoring problems?
In the medical room there’s been another signing off as ‘fit to play’ with the news that Jack Lambert will be in the squad along with Matt Preston who managed his escape in time to make a late appearance in our Cup game at home to Fleetwood Town last weekend (enough said about that the better).
Still in there is Shane Byrne, Joe Leesley and Nathaniel Knight-Percival with all three about a month or two away while Reiss McNally has now served his one game suspension and will be back in the squad tomorrow.
Sadly I can’t see us getting much joy down there and failing to score once let alone seven times. Prove me wrong please.
