Akwasi Asante joined the Harriers on the same day that Jamie Spencer arrived at the club. The Amsterdam born striker has Ghanaian parents and moved to Wednesbury when he was thirteen years old. While in Holland he had trials at Ajax before joining up with HFC Haarlem’s youth academy for three years but once in England he joined Birmingham City in their youth side. After impressing he played his only first team game in a Europa League play-off game against Nacional in 2011 although he did sit on the bench for the final Premier League games against Fulham and Spurs in 2011. He was sent out on loan to Northampton and Shrewsbury, twice, but got injured and eventually left Blues after his contract wasn’t renewed in July 2014. Asante left the Harriers at the end of his only season with us to join Solihull Moors where his goals helped them achieve promotion to the Conference Premier. By the time he left them for Grimsby Town in League Two he had scored 37 goals in 45 appearances. |
