27-01-25. Brackley Town Vs Kidderminster Harriers. Match preview

Preview:Phil Lench

Joe Foulkes
Get better soon Joe Foulkes. Not all footballers are thugs.

With the Harriers going through a bit of a rough spell at the moment now is not the best time to come up against a much improved Brackley Town.

Just the one point from our last two games is our reward for going top of the table and if we have any hope of getting back there tomorrow evening then we’re going to have to produce something better than we did against Darlington FC and Oxford City.

A home defeat against Darlington made our top spot precarious but on Saturday a really disappointing draw at Oxford saw us drop to third place with Chester FC leapfrogging us to take our place. Only a few weeks ago Chester weren’t even in the play-offs and that was the same for Brackley too but they’re now in fourth place and could also leapfrog us if they win. In fact so could Kings Lynn Town if they win and we don’t.

On Saturday our cause wasn’t helped by a thuggish assault on Joe Foulkes that could see him out for a few weeks. The tackle from behind by Josh Parker was only penalised with a yellow card but it should really have been a red card. Such was the severity of it that it led to Joe being stretchered off.

On the same day Brackley were running riot at home to Spennymoor Town with Connor Hall scoring twice in the 4-1 win. Hall – fourteen goals this season so far – was once on our radar but was never followed up and how we could do with a goalscorer right now with Amari Morgan-Smith looking exhausted and going through a bit of a mini barren spell.

There were hopes that we could have bought a new striker in today but that has now been and gone. Something might happen tomorrow but I won’t cross any fingers.

At Oxford Paul Downing was being rested so when Joe got injured we had no one on the bench to replace him. Now with Joe out Downing should be back in the team tomorrow and a little re-jig will take place to accommodate his absence.

Also still missing are Ben Beresford, Luke Summerfield and Alex Penny and it’ll remain that way for some time yet.

As for a positive result for us then I won’t be crossing any fingers there either.
