24-11-17 - FA Trophy 3rd qualifying round preview

The Harriers start out on FA Trophy action at Boston Utd tomorrow and will be hoping that a win there could see them go on a good run in the competition and maybe a trip to Wembley on the 20th of May next year. Last season we made it to the 3rd round proper after beating Lincoln Utd in this round first then going on to beat AFC Telford Utd and Ebbsfleet Utd before narrowly losing at Barrow.

We’ll have to do it without Tyrone Williams again as he serves the final game of his three match ban while Joel Taylor could be missing too with a groin injury. Andre Wright missed Tuesdays 4-0 win at home to North Ferriby Utd but it’s not known if he was injured or not. Long term absentee Lee Vaughan looks to be on his way back after he was seen taking part in the pre-match warm ups while Dan Bradley had surgery on his knee yesterday and will now be out until the New Year at the earliest.

We have already played fellow National North side Boston this season and drew 1-1 with them at Aggborough in September with our goal coming from Emmanuel Sonupè when he scored one of those goals that we haven’t seen in recent games featuring him. He had spotted the Boston keeper off his line and capitalised by sending the ball over his head from the halfway line and then watched it settle in the back of the net.

The first half of that game was just like the game on Tuesday evening with the Harriers dominating play but then in the second half we sat back and let Boston come back into the game and even scored their equaliser for them when, the then, new signing Fraser Horsfall put the ball into his own net.

When they played us then the former Harrier Adam Murray was in charge but he found himself un-employed a month ago and Craig Elliot is the new main man there. He was formerly the manager at Shaw Lane who had a good run in the FA Cup recently before they went out against Mansfield Town in the first round.

So far he hasn’t changed much round at York Street just recalling Tyrell Waite from his loan at Matlock Town and bringing in Reece Thompson on loan from Guiseley. Waite will not feature due to being cup tied having already played in the Trophy for Matlock and Thompson may not be allowed to play in case Guiseley AFC do not want him cup tied.

They could also be without defenders Brad McGowan and Liam Wakefield who got injured in a county cup game on Tuesday and they will face a late fitness test before the game.

With Boston still struggling at the bottom of the table this is a game we should be expected to win. If it’s drawn the replay will be at Aggborough on Tuesday evening and if we don’t even get that far at least we can concentrate on the league.
