Date: 11-03-23 Match preview Vs Kings Lynn Town Venue: Aggborough Kick off: 15:00hrs |
Preview: Phil Lench
Come on help me out here. What can I say that hasn’t already been said a thousand times before this season? Shall I talk about our string of wins against top sides or shall we discuss the goals we score and how each and everyone of them are worthy of being called a goal of the season.
After yet another defeat – this time at Chester FC on Tuesday evening – it’s getting harder and harder to come up with something new. Again, at the Deva, we played well enough in stages but with only two shots on goal in the entire game we’re never going to score enough to overcome anyone. For the chance starved Amari Morgan-Smith he never had a sniff when he came on to replace the ineffective Ethan Freemantle but it wasn’t for the want of trying for either of them. It was for the want of some decent service.
Matters weren’t helped by the red card for Nathaniel Knight-Percival (his second in as many games) that will now see him missing three games following tomorrows game at home to another high flyer, Kings Lynn Town. We don’t know yet what the referee was supposed to have seen when NKP clashed with the Chester keeper Harry Tyrer but the video does clearly show Tyrer pulling NKP to the floor as the game carried on. We may never know but a) it was Tyrer that committed the foul and b) if the ref thought it was a foul by the keeper why didn’t he give a penalty?
Anyway that’s all in the past now and we have Kings Lynn to look forward to.
We’ll still be without Joe McGlynn although we’re all waiting with baited breath for his replacement or possibly Christian Dibble with his foot injury. Alex Penny who was supposed to have told Russ Penn at halftime on Tuesday that he didn’t want to play the second half or is someone being economical with the truth there? Will NKP’s three match ban start earlier than a week later as is usual?
KL Town have been near the top of the table all season but, of late, have been dropping points here and there. They dropped three at home to relegation candidates Farsley Celtic in the week and have also drawn three of their previous four games. They’re still battling it out with AFC Fylde at the top though and changing places on a regular basis.
They’ll be without both Tyler Denton and Kyle Callan-McFadden after they got injured on Tuesday while Cameron Hargreaves and Olly Scott remain out as long term injured.
It’s no longer a case of can we win this game for us. It’s now a case of can we actually score a goal. We’ll see by the end of the game tomorrow whether anything has changed in the ‘goals for’ column.
