Date: 11-02-23 Match preview Vs Spennymoor Town Venue: The Brewery Field Kick off: 15:00hrs |
Preview: Phil Lench
It’s been a quiet week at Aggborough since that, yet another, home defeat to Scarborough Athletic last Saturday. All we’ve had is a postponed, again, game against Stourport Swifts in the Worcestershire Senior Cup and a short video of Joe Leesley on his journey back to fitness.
The single goal defeat to the Seadogs came late on and left us with just the four home wins in fifteen this season. Struggling Farsley Celtic and Boston Utd in the relegation zone have had more home wins than us and it doesn’t look like improving any day soon with a game against Brackley Town coming up next Tuesday. The Swifts game was called off very late when the referee decided thirty minutes before kick off that an area of the pitch was too frozen.
Due to play, and get some valuable game time, in that game were Ethan Freemantle, Keziah Martin, Zak Brown and Tom Leak but the goalkeeper was marked down as a trialist when most were expecting either Christian Dibble or Jamie Emery to get a game. Word was that Emery has gone out on loan to Boldmere St Michaels but neither club have yet confirmed that.
The same evening tomorrows opponents, Spennymoor Town, were playing at home to league leaders Kings Lynn Town and sharing the points in a 2-2 draw where the Moors came from behind twice with goals from Paul Blackett and Reece Kendall. The draw keeps them on our tails in eleventh place and two points behind.
Prior to the Lynn game the Moors strengthened their squad with the arrivals of Liam Ravenhill and Bobby Faulkner on loan from Doncaster Rovers with Faulkner making his bow in the Moors away win at Chester FC last Saturday. Ravenhill has yet to play.
In addition to Joe Leesley we’ll be without Joe Foulkes, Caleb Richards and Alex Penny – yet again – after Alex picked up yet another injury against Scarborough. Thankfully Russ Penn used his crystal ball before the game and bought in Kyle Morrison on loan from AFC Fylde to cover for Alex and Joe in case of injury. He should look into it again and find some cover for Caleb too because Ashley Hemmings is wasted being played out of position back there.
Kyle came on for Alex in the thirtieth minute and looked solid but not so solid when he left the back post clear for Jake Charles to score the Borough goal. We can put that down to being un-used to his team mates though.
We have no Spennymoor team news and it seems that’ll be unlikely. Segregation is in place on police advice tomorrow because of our incendiary obsessed idiots although they’re unlikely to travel all that way in numbers anyway. Let’s just hope that our decent away form can get us through and bag another three points.
