03-09-22. Match report Vs Spennymoor Town

Ruthless Harriers put Spennymoor to the sword

Report: Dan Harper

The Harriers came from behind early on to romp past a starstruck Spennymoor Town side to make it two home wins in a row at Aggborough for the home side.

It looked like the tone would be set from the off when Glen Taylor’s free-kick was fumbled in by Tom Palmer after less than sixty seconds, following an early downpour which left conditions far from ideal for both goalkeepers.

However, it was a great response from the home side when Nathan Lowe converted a free kick of his own following another error for one of the ‘keepers – this time for the away side – when the ball sneaked inside Max Metcalfe’s near post. That saw Palmer give a sigh of relief as was clear to see with his celebration to the North Stand.

After that it was pure Harriers domination with efforts from the likes of Joe Foulkes and the goal scorer, Nathan Lowe before they would take the lead. A corner was delivered to perfection onto the head of defender Krystian Pearce who cushioned his header into the Spennymoor net.

After such a questionable start the mood was flipped and it would be the home side who would go into the break the happiest.

HT: 2 – 1

The second half was an onslaught from the side in Red and White. From the off there were chances for the likes of Yusifu Ceesay and Nathaniel Knight-Percival, who hit the post with a bullet header that left Metcalfe helpless. Soon after the lead was deservedly extended as Harriers turned up the wick when, on the half volley, Ethan Freemantle swivelled before expertly finishing into the bottom corner as the clock approached the hour mark.

The Harriers would soon add a fourth goal to pile the misery on the side from Durham as Ashley Hemmings completely caught them, pushing for a goal to get back into the game, off guard as he chased a through ball on the right-hand side before cutting past the aging Jamie Curtis and slamming the ball past the Spennymoor goalkeeper.

The Harriers had many more chances to add to the score line, including the fourth goal scorer Ashley Hemmings, who squirmed an effort just wide of the upright. The score ended up at 4-1 for the home side in a performance that all the fans and everybody associated with the club will have loved.

In terms of a man of the match, the pick of the bunch for me has to be Ethan Freemantle. Following a game of giving his all, and chasing every ball, he earned his reward with his third goal of the season to top things off. He was totally delighted, as always, as he celebrated with the fans in the North Stand.

Russell Penn, and his backroom staff, will be hoping we can now utilise this win to build some momentum into what has been a bit of an inconsistent start so far when the Harriers make the long trip to the seaside to face Scarborough Athletic next Saturday 10th September.

FT: 4 – 1
