Date: 03-09-22 Match preview Vs Spennymoor Town Venue: Aggborough Kick off: 15:00hrs |
Preview: Phil Lench
A new striker came into the club yesterday and by God isn’t he needed? Following yet another spineless performance, up front, at Brackley Town last Monday it was getting obvious to all that we’re just not lethal upfront anymore. Admittedly it was a first start of the season for Amari Morgan-Smith but he looked very unfit and couldn’t seem to shake off the two defenders shepherding him. Even when Ethan Freemantle came on for that rarity of two up front we failed to test Danny Lewis in the Brackley goal.
That’s now hopefully changed with the season long loan deal of Jack Bearne from Liverpool. The twenty year old played in the first half against us in pre-season and now he’s agreed to come to help us find our goal scoring prowess once again. It’ll be interesting to see if Russ Penn changes his policy from playing a lone striker to utilising a pair of them at home to Spennymoor Town tomorrow.
With the Moors one place above us, fifth, in the table this could be seen as the first six pointer of the season and it’s one that we really do need to win. Their season has seen them become the draw specialists of the season with four so far and two wins. That also means that, along with Kings Lynn Town, they are the only unbeaten teams in the league and they’re going to take some beating.
Our existing injury list is now starting to improve with Tom Owen-Evans’ abdominal strain almost gone enough to possibly see him on the bench while a new addition to the absentee list could be Krystian Pearce who went off just after the break on Monday with a foot injury. He might be fit but Alex Penny isn’t although he’s now back in full training.
Guess what? Spennymoors ‘thorough and in depth preview’ of the game makes no mention of any of their players. No surprise there then that I don’t have a clue about who’s injured and who’s not.
So we have a new striker. AMS should be just that little bit fitter. TOE might be back from injury. We’re up against a tough team. We have to win.
