Date: 02-11-24 Match preview Vs Buxton FC Venue: Aggborough Kick off: 15:00hrs |
Preview:Phil Lench
For the third time this season the Harriers will come up against Buxton FC but this will be the first time in a league encounter. The previous two games were both in the FA Cup with the second being a replay here at Aggborough.
That game will be remembered for the wrong reason as that was the game in which Luke Summerfields leg was broken by a Buxton player who went in on him two footed and off the ground. Of course the incompetent referee, Oliver Noonan, thought it only necessary to issue a yellow card to the offender Callum Leigh when rightfully it should have been a straight red. The injury has forced Luke out of the game for, at least, another six months and could also mean the end of his career in football at this level.
In the end we went through to the next round with a 2-0 win but then threw that all away by losing at home to Guiseley AFC in the next round.
We’ll be without Joe Foulkes for this game tomorrow with the blonde haired one sitting it out for a five yellow suspension. He got booked in last Saturdays win at Peterborough Sports too but, again, the poor referee decreed that a ball hitting his trailing arm was worthy of punishment. What was the lad supposed to do? Tie his arms behind his back?
We’ll also be without Harry Ibbitson too after his loan with us from Bradford City came to an end. Harry has now returned there but one gets the impression from the latest Phil Brown video that we tried to get an extension but that was refused. Have to say you can’t blame City if the lad was on the bench all the time even after he scored his only goal for us in the first FA Cup game at Buxton.
Apart from the injured Summerfield we’ll also have Alex Penny, Ben Beresford and Paul Downing missing injured. Alex is out long term with a fracture in his back while Downing and Beresford are on the way back but not just yet. Beresford might be on the bench for the Curzon Ashton game next Wednesday though.
The interesting bit will be seeing who will take to place of Foulkes at the back. At the moment we don’t possess a dedicated back up full back for that side of the field so someone will have to play there in a position not familiar to them. We just have to hope that Buxton don’t target that weakened side of the pitch.
Referee: Mr Steven Swan. Truro
