Harriers news 2023-24
Date: 01-06-24 Harriers Online and KHIST working together Harriers Online, the leading independent Kidderminster Harriers website, and KHIST, the independent Kidderminster Harriers supporters trust, are pleased to announce a new working partnership that will see KHIST become the major sponsor of this website. The arrangement will last for the coming season and will, hopefully, be renewed when the time comes. KHIST’s generous support will enable the server costs of running the website to be met and also cover the costs of domain name renewals and software upgrades. An essential, but costly, part of running this website. The user will see targeted adverts on the main website at: https://harriers-online.co.uk/khfc/ and also on the message board at: https://harriers-online.co.uk/forum/index.php and both Harriers Online and
Date: 07-05-24 The Harriers retained/released list is out The retained etc list was announced by the club earlier today and this is the one we’ve been waiting for since our relegation from the National League a few weeks ago. With the players now arriving back from their short breaks it seems they have all now been spoken to and their futures decided. So let’s get it done and pick the bones out of it. First of all we’ll get those leaving out of the way and there are some there that I would have thought could do a job for us in getting promoted back at the first attempt: Regan Griffiths Kai Lissimore Matt Preston Sammy Robinson Jay Emmanuel-Thomas Ethan Freemantle
Date: 10-01-24 Harriers appoint Phil Brown as the new manager We were told not to expect any announcement just yet regarding a new manager by the club the other day and then, suddenly, all that is swept away and tonight just three days after Russ Pen got his marching orders we only go and appoint one anyway. The new man is the former Derby County, Hull City and Southend Utd manager Phil Brown and according to the official website he’s here until the end of the season. So he’s a caretaker manager then? According to Dean Holdsworth (who is a very good friend of Brown) he was one “of the many, many excellent applications we had for the post – and
Date: 09-01-24 Harriers progress on penalties in the WSC The Harriers went through to the semi-final of the Worcestershire Senior Cup at Droitwich Spa FC this evening. With the score at ninety minutes on 2-2 the game went to penalties with the Harriers coming out victorious 4-3 in the shootout. We lined up with four regular first teamers: Zak Brown, Kai Lissimore, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain and somewhat surprisingly Matt Preston who you would have thought was overdue a rest. The Harriers opened the scoring in the twenty seventh minute through Kobe Hall but a few minutes later the hosts drew level through a Connor Collins penalty. That’s how the score remained for the half but then in the second period Zak Brown
Date: 08-01-24 Russ Penn relieved of the Harriers job Late last night (Sunday) came the news that every Harriers fan had been expecting. The news that Russ Penn had finally lost his job following a terrible run of results, from basically the start of the season, that has seen Kidderminster Harriers floundering at the foot of the table for most of that time. The promise of a bright future for the club, after the surprising promotion from the National North last season, and all the euphoria that went with it has now been totally lost as Penn struggled to build a team capable of holding it’s own in the league above and also failed to recruit the quality of players needed
Date: 15-10-23 Harriers welcome Fleetwood Town to Aggborough in the FA Cup The Harriers reward for beating Ashton Utd in the FA Cup yesterday is another home game, this time against Fleetwood Town, a team we used to play some seasons ago but went our separate ways when they got promoted into the Football League in 2012. Their highest finish was in league one in 2017 when they finished fourth. At the moment they sit fourth from bottom of League One six points above bottom placed Cheltenham Town and three points below the team above them, Carlisle Utd. A former players of theirs was Jamie Vardy and at the moment they have Kabongo Tshimanga with them on loan from Peterborough Utd
Date: 02-10-23 Harriers get Ashton Utd in the FA Cup In the draw for the 4th qualifying round of this seasons FA Cup campaign on Talksport2 radio this afternoon the Harriers came out of the hat late in the draw, avoiding AFC Fylde and Stourbridge in the process, to meet up with Ashton Utd at Aggborough on October 14th. They won 2-0 at Lancaster City in the 3rd qualifying round to earn the right to play us. We last came up against Ashton back in 2019 in the National North division beating them 1-0 at Hurst Cross Stadium and before that in the home game we drew 3-3. The only other times we’ve played them was in the Staffordshire Senior Cup
Date: 05-07-23 Harriers kick it all off with Woking at home The Harriers will be getting their 2023-24 season underway by welcoming Woking FC back to Aggborough for the first time since October 2015. Our old friends from Surrey were always a big attraction for Harriers fans and they’ll be looking forwards to renewing old acquaintances on Saturday August 5th just as much as Woking fans will be. The history between the two clubs goes back a long way to 1990 and includes numerous FA Cup games as well as a FA Trophy Final at Wembley back in 1995 that we sadly lost in the dying minutes of the game. We’ll be drawing the curtain on the season with a trip
