22-11-19 - Preview - Curzon Ashton Vs Kidderminster Harriers

Hoping for another goal at Curzon

With the dearth of games for the Harriers in recent weeks many of the fans had been looking forward to the Worcester Senior Cup game, on Tuesday evening just gone, at Bewdley Town of all things. As it was the game was called off – tell us something new! – and this FA Trophy game at Curzon Ashton now becomes the first chance in weeks for followers of the Reds to see the team in action.

It was hoped; it had been promised, that we’d have some new faces on show for us following the terrible home defeat to Kings Lynn Town in the distant past but no one has materialised. One position that needed filling was a goalkeeper following the recall of Cameron Gregory to Shrewsbury Town but no one has come in. There was a rumour of a keeper from Redditch Utd joining us for the game at Bewdley but that fell by the wayside.

So tomorrow, if it goes ahead, will be our second trip of the campaign to Curzon following our narrow 1-0 victory there at the start of the season when Ashley Chambers scored in a league game to give us our third win in four games there and still not losing at the Tameside Stadium.

The referee in that game was Paul Brown from Newcastle and by a small coincidence he’ll be officiating again tomorrow.

Apart from the lack of new players we should be at full strength tomorrow unless our four internationals have picked up knocks on their travels. Defender Harry Higginson will be missing from the bench after being sent out on loan to Bromsgrove Sporting earlier in the week.

It’s not known what the injury situation is like at Curzon but they do go into this game on the back of two very good wins at home to AFC Telford Utd and then last Saturday at home to league leaders, an unbeaten, York City. Their first wins since before they played us back in August.

In recent years we haven’t fared too well in cup games having gone out of the FA Cup a few weeks ago to a lowly Stafford Rangers and in this competition last season we lost 3-1 at home to a, then, struggling York City. It doesn’t bode too well for us but with the right attitude and a cutting out of defensive errors we might be able to snatch it by a single goal.

If the game goes to a draw then the replay will be back here this coming Tuesday evening with the Bewdley game now pencilled in for the following evening.
