Charlie Weston …
An outside chance of making his debut at Wealdstone

It’s the Harriers chance to gain their one remaining double of the season when they journey back down to London for the second weekend running tomorrow. We beat Wealdstone FC 1-0 at Aggborough back in October with an Amari Morgan-Smith goal in the dying seconds of the game so to win tomorrow would be our one and only chance of this rare, for us, feat.

We were all getting ready to settle for a nil nil at Aggborough when a Sam Robinson free kick was targeted into a packed goal mouth for AMS to bundle home and hand us the three points in our first home win of the season. It had only taken three months and eight home games to achieve that.

Last week in The Smoke we held Bromley FC to a goal less draw so tomorrow we have to go one better and win. Chance were few and far between at Hayes Lane but we did, arguably, come the closest to scoring and could have nicked it at the death if only Robinson had found that bit of composure in front of goal when one on one with the keeper.

We have a new face in the squad to face the Stones after the Blackburn Rovers youngster, Charlie Weston, joined us on Tuesday. Only nineteen years old he’s probably seen more as cover than a starter but no doubt he’ll be in the squad that travels down there.

We’re getting close to having an full and healthy squad once more with only Shane Byrne out injured long term. Previously injured Matt Preston was on the bench at Bromley while Sam Robinson came on minutes before his miss. We don’t seem to have any new injury problems but no doubt I’ll be proved wrong just when the team news comes out.

If we manage to win this game we could go up to eighteenth place in the table but that depends on others around us all losing. It’s getting tougher by the week to escape those bottom places and drawing our last two games 0-0 (York City at home a few weeks back) hasn’t helped our chances. Even a win at Wealdstone may only be sticking plaster if we don’t start to win games more often so it has to be done soon otherwise it’s the dreaded.

The one thing in our favour – clutching at straws here – is that the Stones were forced to play a catch up game on Wednesday evening after losing so many games to the weather and cup games in recent weeks leaving them four games in arrears over everyone else. That game was at home to ten man Bromley and they contrived to lose that 1-0. They were without five players away on international duty along with a couple of injuries so hopefully they’ll be in no state to play us 🙂

Can we begin to save our season tomorrow? One can only hope.
