Date: 20-08-24 Match preview Vs Brackley Town Venue: Aggborough Kick off: 19:45hrs |
Preview:Phil Lench
Tomorrow evening will be the first meeting of the Harriers and Brackley Town since that memorable afternoon in mid-May last year. On that day we beat the hosts with two brilliant goals from Ashley Hemmings and gained promotion back to the National League.
Sadly, as we all now know, we couldn’t maintain our stay there and now we meet up with Brackley again and no doubt both clubs will be there, or thereabouts, come the end of this campaign when we’ll probably battle it out once more. Until then this game will be another step towards that target.
On Saturday we dealt with Radcliffe FC by beating them 3-0 in a five minute salvo that continued our early season unbeaten run. The goals came from Zak Brown (in a man of the match performance), Maz Kouhyar and Hemmings and we looked good all over the pitch. The only downside was the concussion injury to Amari Morgan-Smith that could mean that he’ll miss seven days as a consequence due to medical regulations but it could be more if needs be.
Meanwhile Brackley were getting their first win with a single goal victory at Chester FC following their opening day home 3-0 defeat to Scunthorpe Utd. Manager Gavin Cowan has been busy in recruitment but it seems that most of the new arrivals are actually old arrivals with the return to the club of Matt Lowe from Accrington Stanley, Connor Hall from Solihull Moors and also a certain Shane Byrne who some may remember from his time with the Harriers.
We know that we could be without AMS so Ben Beresford will probably be making his full debut for us after he deputise well, if a little raw, the other day. The big question now seems to be the absence of Reece Devine who has failed to make the bench so far but that could well mean he’s injured and we haven’t been told.
Our record against Brackley isn’t too good (apart from that play-off final) as can be seen below. Two home wins back in 2018 isn’t a good look so now’s the time to rectify it.
