16-11-20 - Preview - Brackley Town Vs Kidderminster Harriers

After having yet another game called off through the COVID situation  – against York City on Saturday – the Harriers will be hoping that this game at Brackley Town will get the go ahead. Although there’s no sign of the dreaded in either camp just yet you never can tell and a game can be called off at a minutes notice.

If it does get the nod then we’ll be coming up against our former striker Ashley Chambers after he mysteriously signed for them during the first lockdown. There had been rumours back in January that Chambers wanted out of the Harriers but it was thought that he would be joining a club with higher potential than Brackley. This isn’t to say that Brackley are an inferior club but more that the potential of an ambitious club is not how I would describe them.

Anyway our loss is their gain.

Also at St James’ Park are three other former Harriers. Danny Lewis we know well and has been with them for some time now but not so Aaron Phillips and Harry Flowers. Phillips spent a short time with us at the changeover from 2018 to 2019 playing just the four games before he ‘left us for Carlisle Utd’. That was yet another fanciful story from Colin Gordon and in fact had no truth in it whatsoever. He actually ended up at St Ives the following season.

Flowers came to us on loan from Solihull Moors but didn’t like being on the bench and complained publicly about it. He was returned to Damson Lane soon after from where he was released to join Irish side Larne FC. He left there at the end of last season and joined Brackley in August.

Our last game out was a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Leamington on the seventh of this month with our goal coming from the head of Koby Arthur. He was making his full debut, just two other appearances from the bench so far,  for us after being out injured for quite a while. He got his start due to an injury to Omari Sterling-James and will be hoping he gets preferred to OS-J if he is recovered now.

In that game too Jim Kellermann saw red in a retaliation to a challenge from a Brakes player. He’d only been on the pitch for a few minutes too and it didn’t go down too well seeing going back to the dressing room in shame.

On Saturday, when we were supposed to be entertaining York, Brackley were drawing 2-2 up in Gateshead after being 2-0 down. Goals from Tre Mitford (his fifth in four games) and Lee Ndlovu gained them a point. Our defenders will have to be at their best if we want to stop Mitford adding more goals to his tally.

As always at Brackley we’re going to be in for yet another tough game. We have never won, let alone drawn, a game there but there has to be a first time for everything.
