a rejuvenated striker getting the goals that matter
The Harriers will be paying their first ever visit to Maidenhead Utd tomorrow in an invigorated search for three more points to add to the three points gained at home to Ebbsfleet Utd two weeks ago. That first win in ages was bolstered by progression in the FA Trophy at the expense of neighbours Stourbridge FC, also at Aggborough, last Saturday.
In both games Ashley Hemmings has found the net and, including the recent draw at Oxford City, he has now found the back of the net six times. Saturdays was special though because it was also Ash’s first ever hat trick in Harriers colours in his four years with us.
Last Saturday was also memorable for the debut of an alternative big man striker following the months of fans believing that we would never actually get to see one. Gold Omotayo arrived in time for the Stourbridge game to help take the workload off Amari Morgan-Smith. In his thirty minute cameo he looked useful enough but I feel that we still need to improve in this crucial area to give us real depth of squad.
There was also a welcome return from injury for Shane Byrne when he came on for his cameo appearance fifteen minutes from the end. His first game since he got injured at York City in the second game of the season.
While the Oxford City and the Ebbsfleet games were both six pointers (four points from a possible six for us) this one could also have been a few weeks ago but in recent weeks the Magpies have picked themselves up and gone from the bottom four up to thirteenth place in the table culminating in a 4-1 win at Oxford two weeks ago. In a way it shows just how a handful of positive results can get you into comparative safety.
I’m of the belief that, with this new found confidence and the return of important players from injury, we too could be climbing the table very soon helped along by three points at Maidenhead.
