Kidderminster Harriers 0 Maidenhead Utd 0. 28-08-23. Match report

No goals again but at least no one got sent off

Report: Phil Lench

The Harriers habit of not being able to score at home continued today with this 0-0 draw against Maidenhead Utd but at least we got out of the habit of getting a man sent off as has happened in our two previous games.

This was our first ever meeting with the Magpies and it was a bit of a drab affair. Two chances of a goal in the first half came the Harriers way when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball pinging back and forth with Kieran Phillips the last one to get a touch but still it didn’t go in.

A chance for Jack Lambert just before the break saw him going for Joe Leesleys free kick in but the keeper, Craig Ross, got to the ball before Lamberts head did. Maidenhead seemed happy with the draw so far.

HT: 0 – 0

The second half was basically a repeat of the first for the initial twenty minutes until the first change was made. On cake Ashley Hemmings for Phillips and we began to press the Magpies back line more.

Caleb Richards had two chances to score in quick succession when Lamberts shot got blocked and the ball fell for Richards but he could only send it wide. His second chance a minute later was sent straight at the keeper.

The final chance of a dour game went to Lambert once more when Hemmings played him in but Ross pushed his shot away for a fruitless corner.

We’re crying out for a striker that can put the ball away but, by the same token, we have no one in midfield that can create. With Shane Byrne out injured we bought in Barry Maguire on loan to take his place but again he spent his time sat on the bench. Not very creative sitting there is it?

FT: 0 – 0
