15-10-22. FA Cup 4th Qual Rd. Match report Vs AFC Fylde

Harriers and Coasters to go again Tuesday

Report: Dan Harper

The Harriers will meet AFC Fylde for a third time in a matter of just over a month after the two played out an entertaining draw on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Aggborough. Similar to how the first home game was a couple of weeks back, the game initially was one that was cagey with next to no threat on goal from both sides.

It was the twelfth minute that saw the first attempt for either side when Nick Haughton fired a wayward effort over the bar that would be no trouble to Tom Palmer in the home goal. On the fifteenth minute Haughton would once again cause trouble to the home goal, this time with success, as a low drive following some questionable defending from the home backline found the corner of Palmer’s net putting the visitors one up.

The first notable chance for the home side came in the twenty sixth minute when a cross across goal was headed down by right back, Ben Margetson before Yusifu Ceesay saw his effort land in the palms of the Coasters ‘keeper Chris Neal.

The Harriers so nearly found themselves two goals behind before halftime when in the thirty sixth minute, following mishaps including Shane Byrne falling over, Connor Barrett crossed to the prolific Haughton who saw his effort brilliantly cleared off the line by Tom Leak, having his first start for the Reds in place of the injured Alex Penny. Haughton also saw a brilliant long-range attempt saved by the alert Palmer just before the break.

HT: 0 – 1

From the minute get-go in the second half, it looked like it would be same story as the second half for the home side as the first effort of the half came from a Danny Rowe attempt straight down the throat of Palmer. However the momentum would change completely.

The Harriers levelled in the fifty fourth minute when a short corner was taken by Ashley Hemmings. He then received the ball back, following his cutting inside, then drove an effort towards goal with vast speed leading to a deflection off Krystian Pearce taking the ball past a helpless Neal in the Fylde goal.

Aggborough would then explode again two minutes later as the turnaround was complete. Yusifu Ceesay chased down Neal who took his time to clear and the ball cannoned off Ceesay leaving him with the easiest finish he would have all season as he tapped the ball into an open net. Que mass celebration in the stands.

Hemmings had a great chance to make the lead safe for the home side three minutes later as he was played in on goal before he saw a shot blocked by Neal in not the most typical manner before it would be repeated six minutes later as once again Neal made an unconventional stop this time from a Keziah Martin drive.

The Harriers would pay the price for their profligacy five minutes later when the away side levelled through a superb free kick from Fylde starman Haughton that was poorly defended and went in off the underside of the crossbar.

The home side had their final chance of note in the seventy ninth minute when a Hemmings header just missed the target by inches.

Both sides had to settle for a replay and will now meet once again this Tuesday at Mill Farm.

As for MOTM I would agree with the sponsors and award it to Ashley Hemmings who was the biggest threat for the home side all afternoon and topped it off with a goal although I think it’s important to note how, on his first start, Tom Leak handled the occasion well and looked composed under pressure.
