13-07-21 - Friendly - Harriers kids fall to the Swifts

A youthful Harriers ran out 2-1 losers against a Stourport Swifts side that contained a few older players in their line-up.

This was the first friendly for the Reds and also the first chance for Harriers fans to watch their side since the FA Cup game at Alvechurch back in October last year. A game best forgotten anyway. This one had our U23’s and Academy players on show with quite a smattering of trialists (seven in all) that struggled against the older Swifts but did manage to put up a decent show.

The Swifts opened the scoring early on with a goal from their number ten, Ben Tilbury. Jack Tolley replied for us fifteen minutes later with a ball slipped over the line in the melee of players surrounding him.

Of our trialists two stood out. The number four was a Ryan Johnson lookalike while the number eleven (Josh?) was handy too. In the second half a couple of subs came on and the pick of those was an Academy lad wearing the twelve shirt, Reuben Mackay.

The Swifts second, and decisive goal, came from Isaac Jagroop with a strong header that was also too strong for the trialist keeper. Jagroop looked useful if a little agricultural.

That’s how the game ended with no further action of note but at least it was a chance to get some fresh air and rack your brain trying to think who it was you were just talking to.

Onto Evesham Utd next this coming Saturday and with the promise of the first team plus the usual unknowns.
