17-07-21 - Friendly - Harriers overcome Evesham in the heat

In the sweltering Cotswold heat two Harriers teams ran out 4-0 winners in this friendly that during the second half sometimes began to boil over.

An almost full first team took to the field for the first forty five minutes with just the one trialist on show playing in the centre of defence.

It took a while to settle down against an Evesham side that contained a former Harrier, Calvin Dinsdale, but any worries were soon dismissed when youth teamer Jack Tolley scored for the second time this week when he rifled the ball home just inside the post.

Ten minutes later and it was 2-0 when Amari Morgan-Smith, looking much slimmer and fitter, powered one home. Sammy Austin followed soon after with a typical Sammy goal that curled and dipped over the keeper and into the back of the net.

Also out on the pitch we had our first chance to see one of our new signings, Mark Carrington. He looked composed on the ball and sprayed the passes around with ease.

It was a different Harriers line-up that took to the field for the second half with two trialists and two U23’s in the eleven this time. The one playing in the number 4 shirt also played at Stourport Swifts the other evening. He looked useful and seems to have come from a higher level.

It didn’t take long to increase the lead from three to four when Ethan Freemantle was clattered in the area to earn a penalty. Ashley Hemmings took it and sent the keeper the wrong way.

It then started to get a bit tasty with Freemantle and the Evesham number 5 squaring up to each other and both getting yellow cards. A few minutes later and their number 5 again went through one of ours on the centre line to earn another talking too. He hadn’t finished though and a few minutes later he lunged two footed at Sterling-James near to the touchline and still he stayed on the park.

We could have increased our lead a few times but chances for Freemantle, Sterling-James and Hemmings were ballooned over the bar while Josh Hunt did the same for the hosts when it looked easier to score their consolation goal.
