07-07-21 - News - Harriers head to York City on opening day

The Harriers will be kicking off the new season with a brand new ground to visit.

On August 14th we’ll be having the privilege of being the first league game at York City’s new stadium at Monks Cross. The ground was supposed to be ready for the latter end of last season but some virus got in the way and it has only been open for test games so far.

With our history of seeing games at new stadiums backfiring on the hosts then the game could bring back memories of the first ever game at the Darlington Arena back in August 2003.

For some strange reason there are no midweek fixtures early on so our next game will be on the following Saturday at home to Blyth Spartans. The following Saturday we’ll be off to windy Southport but that won’t worry me because I’ll be on my holibobs in Lyme Regis for that week.

Our first Bank Holiday game will be at home to Chester FC and the Christmas period games will be home and away against Hereford FC while our final game will be at Aggborough against Darlington.

Hopefully by that time it’ll just be a formality as we end the season with promotion.
