10-01-22 - Preview - Kidderminster Harriers Vs Farsley Celtic FC

Preview: Phil Lench

Well that was a fun weekend wasn’t it? Now it’s back to the bread & butter of the league and a chance to close the gap on a quickly fading AFC Fylde. We all know what has happened over the past three days but for those of you that have been living on Mars then here’s an update: We only went and beat bloody Reading in the FA Cup and then we only went and drew bloody West Ham at home in the next round didn’t we.

I can’t wait to meet Alf Garnett.

That Reading game showed the world that we shouldn’t be stuck down here in this poxy National North division and so, between tomorrow at home to Farsley Celtic up to when we play Leamington on February 1st, we now have to go out to get as many points on board as we can. The team have to focus on that, and that alone, by putting all thoughts of playing West Ham to one side.

A first chance to see our new on loan striker at last?

So tomorrow evening struggling Farsley come to Aggborough on the back of a thorough 6-0 trouncing by Darlington at their place on Saturday. They will obviously be wanting to put that behind them and come here with the aim of not allowing it to happen again. They’ll, more than likely, pack their defence and try to limit our chances of scoring.

Although it would be tempting to play a ‘weakened’ team against them that’s very unlikely. We might see a couple of fringe players coming in though. Joe Foulkes and Lewis Montrose are both in need of game time while we should be getting a first sighting of the on loan Marcus Dinanga. That would mean a rest for Alex Penny, Mark Carrington or Keziah Martin and Amari Morgan-Smith.

We have no injuries following the Reading game although Geraldo Bajrami did take a knock in the first half but recovered from it with no ill effects.

Farsley have the former loanee Will Longbottom playing for them now. We had him on loan from Doncaster Rovers a few years ago and he looked quite useful. Sadly he picked up a bad injury and returned to Donny remaining injured until he went out on loan again to Halesowen Town.

They’ll be without the suspended Tyler Walton and also possibly Dave Syers who collected his fifth booking of the season over Christmas but has yet to see it implemented. Missing injured could be defender Jason Akiotu and midfielder Sam Walker but no clear news about them is forthcoming from the Farsley encampment.

Although this game could appear to be an ‘after the Lord Mayors party’ type of thing it would be good to see a few more of those new supporters that came to the Reading game at Aggborough tomorrow evening. I doubt it though and we won’t be seeing them again for another four weeks.

Away from home in the league: (P10, W1, D3, L6) Hereford 0-1, Kettering 1-1, Blyth 1-1, York 4-2, Telford 2-0, Leamington 3-0, Chorley 2-1, Gloucester 2-0, Southport 4-0, Guiseley 0-0.

They’ve seen goalkeepers Tom Donaghy and Harry Wright leave after loan spells, as did defenders Sam Bird, Ben Blythe, Nassim Kherbouche also midfielders Liam Loughlan and Kian Scales.

Manager Neil Ross took over in November following Adam Lakeland’s departure to take over at Curzon Ashton. His assistant Mark Bett went with him whilst Danny Ellis joined Darlington in September.

Their top scorer is the former Bradford City man James Hanson with 4. Kyle Trenerry should continue in goal whilst there may still be a doubt over the former Hyde United defender Jason Akiotu after he picked up a knock against Guiseley. Joel Byrom may be another concern, despite a reported return to training in mid December. Dave Syers picked up his 5th yellow on the 2nd January so if the cards haven’t been wiped, he may be suspended. Tyler Walton was sent off in that game, so he’ll be missing. Sam Walker went off injured in August and hasn’t featured since.
