Match preview Vs Nuneaton BoroughVenue: Liberty WayDate: 10-11-18Kick off: 15:00hrs |
Two defeats to bottom placed clubs in recent weeks and now the Harriers face the third club to occupy twenty second spot tomorrow when we come up against struggling Nuneaton Borough. Actually it’s us struggling too and that just can’t continue.
At home to FC Utd of Manchester we lost 2-1 but put up a bit of a fight. Last week, also at home to Southport, we collapsed with a whimper from the first minute to the last after gifting them four goals in a thirty minute period in the first half. We got a goal back but never looked like adding to that. We can use the excuse that both teams are fighting for their lives and desperate for the points but we’re supposed to be fighting to get out of this league and also in need of valuable points too.
Could it be that we’re better away from home? That could be the case having annihilated Leamington FC just over a week ago but we also lost badly at Chester FC back in September where we were just as much of a shambles as in the two recent home defeats.
Could the real reason be down to a non existent midfield that leaves the strike force un-supported and a defence exposed? There’s also a lack of leadership on the pitch and it all needs sorting soon. To that end we have strong rumours of the former Harriers midfield maestro, Russ Penn, coming back to us on an eighteen month contract. According to the Jorvik Press that could well be happening with Joe Ironside and a central defender heading North.
Ironside has been relegated to the bench in recent weeks with his lack of pace letting him down. He can still get into positions to score goals though so that should make him a good replacement for Jon Parkin then 🙂 Who the defender will be is anyone’s guess and that’s worrying. Fraser Horsfall is from Halifax so may want to return home but he’s our most valuable asset and I can’t see him going for silly money. Kenny Digie? maybe it could be him but we need someone on the bench so that leaves Ed Wagner. He doesn’t seem to be in Neil MacFarlanes plans so would seem the obvious choice.
One thing’s for sure if Horsfall does go then this club can wave goodbye to promotion. That would surely show a lack of ambition and also deceit towards our long suffering fans.
Then again when we go to Liberty Way tomorrow we could always come back with a couple of new players after it was announced in the week that they will be looking at offers for the majority of their squad following the recent problems there and the proposed move back to part time. The one’s up for grabs are those that don’t want to lose their full time status and includes Ashley Carter who was with us last season but left to join part time Alvechurch FC until he joined the Boro in August.
Following the arrival of a new owner last week the incoming new regime at Nuneaton seems to have spurred the team slightly after they came back from three goals down at Chester in mid week. The two goals they scored weren’t enough to save them from defeat and they remain bottom.
We should be at full strength for our visit there and with the ear bashing they got in the dressing room on Saturday they must surely try a little bit harder to win the game. A decent away following should also encourage them too and hopefully we’ll be back on track by five o’clock.
Joint leaders Chorley are in FA Cup action at home to Doncaster Rovers on Sunday while and Bradford PA are away at Curzon Ashton. Of the two teams on equal points with us Chester are at home to Altrincham while Spennymoor Town should have been at home to Stockport County but they, County, will be down in Yeovil. If we don’t win tomorrow we could find ourselves dropping down to fifth place.
