Now back at the Harriers

A popular player  from our past returned to the club today and it’s hoped that his battling midfield qualities will be the missing link in a team that have struggled for a commanding figure in the middle of the park since the departure of Ryan Croasdale for AFC Fylde last season.

Russ Penn has signed on at Aggborough on an eighteen month contract that some will see as slightly excessive for a player that turned thirty three yesterday.

Russ first played for us as a youth player but was never given a pro contract. He came back to us in the summer of 2005 following his release from Scunthorpe Utd at the age of twenty. He stayed with us for three seasons leaving in July 2009 for Burton Albion. A move that cost the newly promoted Staffordshire side £50,000. After a couple of years there he left to join Cheltenham Town who were then under the stewardship of Mark Yates.

He moved North to join York City and then moved around various other clubs in that part of the country before, temporarily coming back down South to join Wrexham AFC for a short while.

His next stop was back Gateshead with whom he had played before and then back to York at the start of this season. In his first spell for them he played over a hundred games and in his recent spell fifteen times.

There has been talk of two of our players heading to York too. Joe Ironside and Kennedy Digie were both expected to go there on loan today but by this evening there had been no news in that regard. We may know more on Monday so, along with Russ, both should be available for selection at Nuneaton Borough tomorrow.
