01-09-17 - Two defenders out and one defender in

A flurry of activity at Aggborough in the past few days has seen two defenders leave the club to be replaced by one, so far. We reported on Thursday about Liam Daly leaving the Harriers to return to his old club Solihull Moors but yesterday another defender, Cieron Keane, left us for Alfreton Town. One of those was replaced yesterday evening with the arrival of Fraser Horsfall on loan from Huddersfield Town until the end of January next year.

We all knew that we were having problems defensively and Keane was one of those expected to go. We didn’t expect him to leave us completely though, merely go out on loan somewhere, so yesterday we acted quickly to bring in the highly rated Horsfall.

Twenty year old Fraser has just signed a one year contract with the Premiership outfit but has spent time out on loan last season and this. His first loan was to Trafford FC at the end of 2016 and then on his return he went back to Manchester again to join up with doomed Stalybridge Celtic and then to promotion hopefuls Salford City until the end of the season.

This season he was loaned out to a higher placed club, Gateshead, but only made the bench on opening day against Woking then failing to get in any of the line-ups following that. Obviously Huddersfield didn’t take too kindly to that and re-called him yesterday then sent him down South to Kidderminster. The worry now is that we might not have seen him actually play and he might not fit into our style of game.

Now that we have no real defenders to speak of – Tyrone Williams, Kennedy Digie, Josh Webb and Joel Taylor (if fit) – then Horsfall will be thrown in at the deep end without any game time. The feeling is that we still need an experienced centre half in the Keith Lowe mould to come in and allow these young players to mature alongside but at the moment there’s no sign of that happening so it looks likely that a pairing of Horsfall and Digie will be seen in the game against Boston Utd tomorrow.
