17-01-25. Kidderminster Harriers Vs Warrington Town. Match preview

Preview:Phil Lench

We meet Warrington Town at Aggborough tomorrow for the first time ever and it’s an opportunity to make amends for the defeat at their Cantilever Park home back towards the start of the season. The 2-1 reversal, after taking an early lead through Ben Beresford in the fifth minute, was undone when we sat back thinking the job was done and paid the price. That was our first defeat of the season after winning our first three games.

A case of being dumped back to earth.

Since then our paths have widened with Warrington struggling near the bottom of the table in nineteenth place while we’ve learnt from that lesson, and others, by leading the table at this crucial time of the season. We regained that spot on Tuesday at Scarborough Athletic and another fine 3-2 win. At first, in the first half, it looked like we’d regret letting the home side back in when they pulled the game back twice but a sterling effort from our defenders in the second half saw us get all three points.

With the three goals coming from Maz Kouhyar, Amari Morgan-Smith and Ashley Hemmings they are now our three leading scorers. We could still do with another striker though and for that we’re still waiting.

We found out on Tuesday that Kam Kandola missed the game through an injury picked up before the cancelled Marine AFC game and could now also miss the Warrington game. Jim Kellermann deputised for him and played really well, well enough for another chance. Also out injured are the usual suspects Luke Summerfield and Alex Penny along with Beresford.

The weather should be ok for the game – mild with sunny periods is forecast – so there’s no danger of an early pitch inspection there. The only problem will be us and our ability to not turn up against a struggling team and letting them pack a defence and score on the breakaway leaving us wondering just what went wrong.

I’m sure we’ve learnt our lesson there though – haven’t we?
