A renewing of acquaintances

The Harriers were handed a unique chance to come face to face with one of their former, and legendary, strikers today when the draw for the next round of the FA Trophy was made. We could face the winners of either Stamford FC or Kidsgrove Athletic and it’s the latter that has the Harriers fans mouths watering.

Why? because Anthony Malbon now plays for Kidsgrove and, yes, he’s still banging the goals in.

Malbs is still held dear in the hearts of Harriers supporters from his time with us during the Steve Burr era. It was Steve that signed the prolific striker from Newcastle Town in January 2012 and he burst onto our scene with a debut goal at Alfreton Town that saw him climbing onto the barrier to celebrate with his new worshippers. He went on to score another thirty four goals in a two year spell that only came to an end after the GBH served on him by Mansfields Louis Briscoe: Match report

He never really recovered from that and eventually left us to get his head together at his local side. First of all though he has to help his team get past the obstacle of beating Stamford.

If we get through this game, and bear in mind that both clubs are in Tier 3 so no fans allowed, then we’ll be getting a bye into the next round due to the un-availability of Macclesfield Town. That bonus would then see us going straight through into the fourth round of the Trophy.

The game, against either Stamford or Kidsgrove will take place next Tuesday evening, the 15th.
