27-08-17 - Preview - Brackley Town Vs Harriers

Following yesterdays more positive result at home to Alfreton Town the Harriers now turn their sights to a much tougher prospect away at Brackley Town tomorrow. Brackley are one of the early season pacesetters and are occupying the kind of places where most Harriers fans expected us to be. At the moment, following their scoreless draw at Chorley yesterday, they sit in second spot in the league while we are stumbling around in eleventh place and seven points adrift.

The points they dropped yesterday were the first they have dropped so far with victories against FC Utd of Manchester, AFC Telford Utd, North Ferriby Utd, Nuneaton Town and Spennymoor Town under their belts. The game will be a good chance to renew our acquaintances with two former Harriers plying their trade with Town now. Both Danny Lewis and Jack Byrne signed for them during the close season from Solihull Moors but Jack has only played for three minutes on the opening day of the season and sat on the bench, un-used, for the rest of the time while Danny has started every game.

We could be without Joel Taylor for the game after he didn’t come out after halftime allowing the management team to re-think the formation and sending on Andre Brown as an extra attacking option instead. The enforced change turned the game around completely and we went from a goal down to being 2-1 up within twenty minutes. It could have been more with better finishing.

Last season, playing Brackley for the first season ever, we lost both times to them. The first one came in the second game of the season after our 6-1 thrashing of Curzon Ashton a few days earlier on opening day. The game at Aggborough was so poor and we didn’t have a shot on target in open play and our only goal came at the end when Tyrell Waite was bought down in the area and got up to put the spot kick away.

In the return game at Brackley in the following February we lost 2-0 with the late goals coming for Cliff Moyo after we had failed to put our early chances away and Elton N’Gwatala had been taken to hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder. that was the first sign of further shoulder problems for Elton.

So already we’ll start the game as underdogs but it’s something we’re going to have to deal with and quickly. No more playing Joe Ironside by himself but giving him that long overdue partner that worked so well when Brown came on the scene on Saturday.

Sometimes you have to take a risk.
