26-08-22. Match Preview Vs Peterborough Sports

Preview: Phil Lench

Newly promoted Peterborough Sports will be paying their first ever visit to Aggborough tomorrow for this clash between sixth and third. Sports have started the season well showing that enthusiasm can get you results even if you don’t have many top quality players.

Their good players include the former Harriers hero Michael Gash and his appearance is bound to strike up the North Stand with that familiar old chant of ‘We all love Gash’ even though that may not be politically correct nowadays. Also turning out for them is Gash’s former team mate from Kings Lynn Town Ryan Fryatt while some may also remember Jordan Nicholson from Nuneaton Town and Brackley Town.

Their results so far have seen them draw at home to Buxton FC, lose away at Gloucester City but then also beating Southport in Lancashire and then last weekend putting three past Chester FC to win by the odd goal in five. They’re obviously no push overs so we need to be on top of our game.

As usual at this level I don’t have a clue about their injuries because they choose not to make them public.

We could have Amari Morgan-Smith back with us in some form following his groin injury but Alex Penny is still some way off a return following the injury to his spine. We did see Tom Owen-Evans miss the late, late win at Bradford (PA) last Saturday while Yusifu Ceesay came off injured early on. The state of either injury isn’t known at the moment.

Having only picked up a single point at home so far – drew against Leamington FC then lost miserably to Curzon Ashton a few days later – we now need to get our game in gear and win this one. That should then set us up nicely for a tough trip across to Brackley on Monday.
