Date: 24-12-21 Don’t look back Dinanga

Just a few hours before the Christmas festivities were supposed to have begun the Harriers sprung a couple of surprises on their supporters today.

In for a month from Altrincham

First we were told that the Boxing Day game at home to Hereford FC had been called off due to yet another outbreak of the virus at Edgar Street followed by the news that the game at Kettering Town on the 28th had also become a victim to the dreaded. Then a hour later Nyal Bell was sent back out on loan before he’d had a chance to hang his coat up. Then a few minutes ago the club announced the one month loan of striker Marcus Dinanga from Altrincham.

That last move came out of the blue due to us not really being short in that department and us thinking that Bell would, at least, been given a chance to prove himself at last. Not so, it seems, and now Dinanga is here it’s to be hoped that he’ll get some game time.

We’ve met him before when he was on loan with AFC Telford Utd a few seasons back although he’s never scored against us. He’s with Altrincham at the moment after starting his career at Burton Albion but being released by them in July to join Altrincham. He’s also played for Hartlepool Utd and Chesterfield on loan too.

Marcus is here for an initial five weeks but it’s hard to see when he’s going to actually play for us during that time with those two previously mentioned games off and most likely the Hereford return game too. Then we have the Reading FA Cup game that he can’t play in because he played in the previous round for Alty against Gateshead then that leaves four of the remaining January games against Farsley Celtic, Darlington, York City and Gloucester City.

As for poor old Nyal Bell his loan at Curzon Ashton came to an end a few days ago and now he’s been sent straight back out on loan to Tamworth until around the same time span as Dinanga is here for. It’s looking very doubtful if Bell will be a Harrier for much longer.
