14-08-17 - Preview - Harriers Vs Leamington FC

Having got off the mark at FC Utd of Manchester on Saturday all eyes now turn to the game at Aggborough tomorrow evening against newly promoted Leamington FC.

A well taken brace from Manny Sonupè got us the points on Saturday and he’ll be hoping for another start and the possibility of more goals tomorrow. He came back into the side after having a mare of a game on the opening day against Chorley and then missed out completely at the Nuneaton fiasco last Tuesday. There were debuts for Kenny Digie and Joel Taylor on Saturday too and both did well enough to be included against Leamington.

It’s been a long time since we’ve come up against our visitors and that was back in 1983 when they were known as AP Leamington. AP were a car parts company who sponsored them and that’s where the ‘Brakes’ nickname comes from.

Earlier today they sold young striker Courtney Baker-Richardson to Swansea City for an un-disclosed fee after he had gone to Leicester City on trial during the close season. He had been released by Coventry City three years ago and soon after came to the Harriers on trial but wasn’t taken on. He joined Leamington last season and scored 26 goals to help them to promotion.

Last week Leamington signed young midfield prospect Milan Butterfield from Walsall to help cover a mini injury crisis. They’re without James Mace and Liam Canavan after they both picked up achilles injuries at Gainsborough on opening day while they also have injury worries with Joe Magunda and former Harrier Callum Gittings. Callum is just one of six former Reds with them along with Ahmed Obeng, Rob Thompson-Brown, Tony Breeden, Joe Clarke and Stefan Moore.

We should only be without the services of Lee Vaughan still after we picked up no noticeable injuries in Manchester.

The Brakes have the same kind of results as us with one win (at Gainsborough) and two defeats (Tamworth and Southport) but they’re above us just slightly having scored more goals than us so all we need to do tomorrow is score more than them and we’ll then go above them.
