11-08-17 – Preview – FC Utd of Manchester Vs Harriers

Two of the teams still awaiting a point clash tomorrow at Broadhurst Park and hopefully just one of them will bring the points home with us. To do that we’ll need to score a goal, or two, at least and that’s something we’ve failed to even look likely doing yet. Three shots on target at home to Chorley on Saturday was slightly better than the two we had at Nuneaton on Tuesday evening and frankly that is awful coming from a team that came so close to promotion last season.

It’s something that needs to be improved on and the only way to do that is to actually utilise our service starved centre forward. Poor Joe Ironside must be wondering why he came to Aggborough in the first place if he was just going to be ignored all the time. Even the Nuneaton fans the other night couldn’t understand why he was being left to plough a lone furrow and if he had stayed at Liberty Way he would surely have scored against us.

At the other end it’s amazing that we have only conceded twice with a defence that does not seem to know what it’s doing. We played a recognised full back, Josh Webb, the other night but he was a bit raw and was chasing shadows most of the time. The other full back, Cieron Keane, wasn’t much better and both of them need to improve their positioning before tomorrow. The other problem was Tyrone Williams.

Poor Ty had such a good season in a good side last year but this time round he’s been given the extra responsibility of accompanying Liam Daly in a centre half pairing and it just isn’t working for him. It would make sense to put him back alongside Keane or put him on the bench for a while. That all depends on whether or not we get the much talked about new central defender in though.

FC Utd are having a similar bad start as us but at least they have scored in both of their games. Jason Gilchrist got their goal in the opening day 2-1 defeat at Brackley and then scored again at home to Spennymoor Town on Tuesday to start bring them back from two early goals from the visitors. Danny Wisdom scored the second to draw them level only to see Spennymoor get a third goal soon after.

We have one definite injury with Lee Vaughan a long way of returning from a broken leg. Manny Sonupè was missing on Tuesday after picking up a knock against Chorley while Declan Weeks was subbed at half time at Nuneaton after being injured during the first half. Dan Bradley came on for him but it may well have been intended anyway.

Bradley looked decent enough considering it was his first game in quite a while but it wasn’t until Elton N’Gwatala came on did we look anything like and those two could eventually strike up an understanding between each other.

For FC Utd they’ll be without two suspended players in Scott Kay and Lewis Lacy with both still serving suspensions carried over from last season. Dan Brady is away on holiday? while Jake Williams has been sent out on loan to Buxton. Defender Matt Hughes will be available after missing the opening two games while also available will be the ex Harriers loanee Craig Lindfield now in his second spell with the club.
