Obviously didn’t want to stay

News item: Harriershane

This week saw Joe Ironside sadly depart for Sol Campbell’s Macclesfield Town, whilst Harriers brought in defender Cliff Moyo from Guiseley AFC and former loanee Richard Peniket from Alfreton Town as, possibly, Ironsides replacement.

Ironsides departure was disappointing to many considering that he had previously stated that he could work with our new manager having been under his wing as a youngster with Sheffield Utd. Sadly it appears that the damage was done when he was disastrously sent out on loan to York City last year but came back with renewed vigour and a thirteen goals in eighteen games slap in the face for the man who wanted him gone.

Moyo represents the first signing of the John Pemberton era since he became the Harriers new manager on May 29th. Moyo is an energetic right back who scooped the Guiseley player of the year awards and impressed in our draw at Guiseley last season. A promotion winner with FC Halifax Town in 2017, Moyo is also a Zimbabwe international capable of playing across the back line. If his interview is anything to go by, then we have a player who will be proud to represent this great club. A good start, sir.

Local lad Richard Peniket started his career at Fulham and spent three months on loan at Aggborough during the fabled Steve Burr second placed season. Standing at 6’3, Peniket is a physical striker who can hopefully provide a great foil for Ashley Chambers. Alongside Moyo, Peniket also got promoted with Halifax out of the National League North before spells at Gateshead and latterly Alfreton. Now 25yrs old he brings a wealth of experience at this level to the table and is keen to make an impact.

Harriers’ pre season schedule has now been confirmed with Bristol Rovers, Bromsgrove Sporting, a Wolves XI and an Aston Villa XI all visiting Aggborough, whilst the senior team will visit Stourport Swifts, Stourbridge and Halesowen Town. It appears to be a more practical pre season compared to years gone by so hopefully this will be conducive to a strong start to the season.
