02-05-22 - Report - Leamington FC 2 Kidderminster Harriers 0

One memorable moment and that was it

Report: Phil Lench

This is going to be a short match report and not because I haven’t much time or that I can’t be arsed. No, it’s because apart from one incident there is very little to write about. Let’s get that one incident done with first.

Callum Gittings? Now there’s a name from our past and one that is always remembered with fondness. From out of nothing, but a poor clearance from defence, he volleyed the ball beyond the grasp of Luke Simpson in the fifth minute of the game. It was a goal worthy of James Ward-Prowse, James Maddison or Omari Sterling-James, such was it’s flight and power. When the highlights come out just fast forward to the fifth minute and watch, then watch it again. Then don’t bother with the rest and go and find something better to do.

I can understand resting a few players before the play-offs and that we have, at least, fourth place confirmed but that rubbish we saw today was something we don’t want to see again. We saw a much changed team with no familiarity with each other, no passing ability, toothless upfront, unable to keep the ball and eleven players (and fans) with a crick in their necks.

I can understand blooding rookie players and giving the fringe players a go but it still needs to look like a  team. That today must have done very little to the confidence of those youngsters.

Leamington were also playing a weakened side but they seemed far more up to it and were more determined to get a positive result.

We didn’t have a shot on goal.

HT: 0 – 1

The second half was, frankly, more of the same. Hoof it, launch it, give it away.

Overall Joe Foulkes and Alex Penny were the only one’s worthy of the shirt and Joe was taken off midway through to be replaced by Luke Bastable to come on for his debut. Also coming one for his long awaited debut was Jack Tolley who replaced Geraldo Bajrami. Both looked decent enough considering what they had been thrown on to.

Leamingtons second goal came from a  defensive error that saw the slightly annoying Manny Olaloko lose his marker – I won’t say who – and surge towards goal and slot the ball under Simpson. We had a shot later on from Corey Panter that went out for a corner and Lewis Montrose sent a header over the bar.

That was it. We were poor. We went home.

FT: 0 – 2
