It’s FA Cup day tomorrow, Sunday, and we’ll be welcoming some old foes to Aggborough when the Cod Army sails into town. Their team Fleetwood Town will be there too and ready to renew an acquaintance that included a certain Leicester City and England striker in our last meeting back in 2011. Thankfully Jamie Vardy never scored against us but he did get sent off in the game on the 20th September 2011 <\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

It was that season that they gained promotion into the Football League and have done well for themselves really. They eventually climbed into League One and in 2017 they finished in fourth place losing out in the play-offs to Bradford City in the semi final. They’re still in that division today but in the relegation zone at third from bottom. On Wednesday evening they fought out a 3-3 battle with their local rivals Blackpool so we have to hope that they’ll still be feeling the effects of that game.<\/p>\n

Our last game was on Saturday when we came up against table topping Chesterfield and lost 1-3<\/a> and held our own for long periods of the game but eventually the difference in quality, and firepower, showed. We now have to put that behind us a get a result tomorrow.<\/p>\n

On the injury front we’ll still be without Shane Byrne, Joe Leesley and Jack Lambert but could have Nathaniel Knight-Percival back in the squad along with Matt Preston who has been on the bench, without playing, for the past two games. Reiss McNally got sent off controversially on Saturday and he won’t be available to us.<\/p>\n

The other two that we don’t seem to have had any clarification on are Bailey Hobson and Ryan McLean. In our previous round game against Ashton Utd Bailey wasn’t allowed to play by Chesterfield but since then his loan has been extended until January so it was hoped that they would have relaxed a little and allowed him to play in this game. A similar scenario surrounds McLean who is already with us until January from AFC Wimbledon but they’ve not said if he can play either yet.<\/p>\n

The draw for the next round of the Cup will be during our game so no doubt eyes will be on mobiles seeing who we could be up against if we get through this one. We have to get through first though before we can all start getting excited once again but I believe that we could spring a surprise and put an early end to Fleetwoods FA Cup journey.<\/p>\n
