Robbie Matthews signed for the Harriers just after the start of the 2009-10 football season. He had originally been expected to arrive at Aggborough before the season started after failing to receive any pay for three months at Salisbury City. This had triggered the FA rule that any player not being paid for three months was entitled to leave the club and seek employment elsewhere. At the last minute he was suddenly paid part of what he was owed but still demanded a move from the club. The Harriers then moved in for him and it’s thought the fee of £5,000 was the missing salary. Not well known as an out and out striker he was bought into the club as a foil for Matt Barnes-Homer. Once MBH left for Luton Town in November 2009 Matthews was never given a new player to play alongside and by the end of his first season here it was obvious that he was never going to score goals by himself. He left to join newly promoted Newport County in July 2010. |
