John McGrath started his career with Aston Villa but after making only two appearances he failed to make the grade and went out on loan to Dagenham & Redbridge. He was then signed by Doncaster Rovers in time for the start of their first campaign back in the Football League after being promoted from the Conference. Just prior to signing for the Harriers he spent a month on loan at Shrewsbury Town. The then Harriers manager, Stuart Watkiss, said that he had a sweet left foot. Something we could do with. In the end the ‘sweet left foot’ never materialised and John was released at the end of the season. It wasn’t until he joined Burton Albion in May 2007 that his career took off. He made two hundred and thirty nine appearances for them scoring nineteen times. | |||
