The future England goalkeeper, Ben Foster, was bought to the club by the Shaun Cunnington as a stand in keeper for both John Danby and Daniel Lewis following their injuries prior to the relegation battle against Shrewsbury.

At the time he was the third string keeper for his club Stoke City and they had previously loaned him out to Bristol City and Tiverton Town before he came here. Ben only played two games for us until he was re-called by his club due to an injury crisis.

His next loan was to Wrexham AFC but he never made an appearance for Stoke. He was suddenly sold to Manchester Utd in July 2005 for an astonishing £1,000,000. He made only 21 appearances for them and was sent out on loan to Watford.

In 2010 Ben was sold on to Birmingham City for £6,000,000 before joining West Bromwich Albion for £4,000,000 two years later. In July 2018, following West Broms relegation to the Championship, he was sold to Watford for an undisclosed fee.

In his international career for England Ben was capped 8 times from February 2007 against Spain until the 2014 World Cup in Brazil when he played in our final game against Costa Rica before we came home after finishing in bottom place with just one point.
