Andy Ferrell arrived at the Harriers on loan until the end of the 2006-07 season from local rivals Hereford Utd after he found himself out of favour there after the Utd manager Graham Turner bought in two new midfield players.

The Newcastle born tough guy – nicknamed Mad Dog by Hereford fans – was a no nonsense tackler as we saw when we played Hereford in March 2006 and he was sent off for a crunching tackle on Terry Fleming.

He lasted just the one game on loan for us, at St Albans City, before returning to Hereford with a hamstring injury that would cause him to miss to remainder of the season.

The following season he returned to the club permanently with an initial one year contract and he left the club to join York City in May 2009.

On October 2nd 2012 Ferrell was arrested at his home in Newcastle for drug dealing offences. He was sentenced to four years in prison and was released after serving two years. He then played for clubs local to the Newcastle area before moving into management at Bedlington Terriers but only lasted one season before relegation.
