Nuneaton born defender Alex Penny signed for the Harriers in February 2020 and became new manager Russ Penns’ first signing for the club.

Although born in Nuneaton his family moved to Withernsea on Spurn Point near Hull and he eventually joined City as a young boy. In April 2015 he was offered a youth contract but turned it down to join Bedworth Utd where he lasted less than a month before signing for Stourbridge.

He lasted only a few weeks there and moved on to Hinckley AFC for a season before returning to Nuneaton to sign for them. It was from them that he became one of the many non league players to join Peterborough Utd for an inflated fee but that lasted less than a year with them.

Since then he has played for Hamilton Academical and Boston Utd up until he signed for the Harriers.

In February 2022 came the highlight of his career when he scored our goal against West Ham Utd in the FA Cup. A game that we eventually lost in extra time but was shown on TV’s around the world.
