After that awful drubbing at Kings Lynn Town on Tuesday evening the team now have a big chance to redeem themselves, and their failings, tomorrow when Leamington FC arrive at Aggborough.

A win would take us back into the mix nearer the top of the table after we dropped down three places from second to fifth and we should, at least, go back above Lynn who have no game due to their game at Brackley Town being postponed with Brackley playing at Stockport County in the FA Cup.

Overall it was poor defending that let us down the other night along with a lack of bite and ideas up front. We could possibly include a weak midfield in that and that’ll explain why we lost and lost so badly. Yes, we did have injuries but we’re supposed to be a full time club with depth to spare so where the hell was it?

Those injuries are to Ben Beresford, Reece Devine and Tope Obadeyi short term while Luke Summerfield and Alex Penny remain out long term. We have no idea where Maz Kouhyar was  on Tuesday following his stint playing for his country. The final proof that Jack Lambert is no longer in the thoughts of Phil Brown was proved at Kings Lynn with no sign of the creative midfielder in a midfield bereft of one such.

Kam Kandola was – wrongly in my opinion – sent off but his suspension won’t happen until we play AFC Fylde in the FA Trophy next week. At least we’ll have Zak Brown back tomorrow from his suspension.

Leamington are having a middling season and sit in mid table at this time. On Tuesday they lost at home to strugglers Needham Market and in recent weeks have lost at home to Scunthorpe Utd, away to Chorley FC and Radcliffe FC. Their only two victories were at home to Peterborough Sports and, err, Kings Lynn.

On paper they should be no threat to us but looking at our past games against them a different story is told. In the 2021-22 season we beat them 3-0 at home but then it all went wrong with a 2-0 defeat over there. In the following season we could only draw 0-0 in both games so we can easily sum up our last three games against Leamington as ‘we failed to score’.

Will we ‘fail to score’ again tomorrow?
