27-12-20 – Preview – Kidderminster Harriers Vs AFC Telford Utd

GAME OFF. Aggy is snowed in

The Harriers are soon back in action tomorrow when AFC Telford Utd arrive at Aggborough for the second instalment of our festive season entertainment. It will be all the better too for the inclusion of that rarity nowadays: a crowd.

Hopefully the returning fans (all 1250 of them) will be able to see something a little better than has been witnessed in recent weeks. A home defeat to Kettering Town and two away defeats to Stamford AFC and, yesterday, at Hereford FC have been leavened only by a brilliant win at Gateshead between the first two.

Yesterday at Edgar St is one we’ll want to forget. It looked promising at first with the Reds going into an early lead thanks to a goal from Luke Maxwell but it quickly crumbled like over dry sage & onion stuffing when Amari Morgan-Smith got himself sent off for the second time this season following a late? challenge on Brandon Hall in goal for Hereford. That was soon after another former Harrier, James McQuilkin, had pulled his new team level.

AMS’s stupidity will now see him miss four games although he will be eligible to play against Telford. Many fans would rather he didn’t though seeing has he’s done very little, scoring wise, for us since his return to the club. We’re crying out for a decent front man that can put the ball into the net because we don’t seem to have one at the moment. With many players being released in the New Year we may be able to bring something better in.

Now that’s out of the way we can get onto tomorrows game.

Telford didn’t do too well in their Boxing Day game either losing at home to Chester FC. A goal from Aaron Williams gave them the lead – his sixth in three games. Are you listening at the back AMS? – but Chester overtook that lead with two goals of their own and the three points on offer too. Jason Oswell made his return from a hamstring injury late on in the game but could have no influence on the result.

They’ll be without Brendon Daniels and Henry Cowans tomorrow with the latter a long term injury and they’ll also have to do without their defensive general, Shane Sutton, after he walked out of the club just before the Chester game to join Newtown. They’ve also seen two backroom staff going absent in the past week too with the goalkeeping coach Darren Acton and general coach Phil Trainer all taking time out to be ‘with their families’. 

Yesterday our injury free squad was without Jim Kellermann, Ethan Freemantle and Jaiden White but today the club say that only Kellermann is injured but not telling us what with. Let’s assume that the other vtwo will now be available so we have at least one to replace AMS if needed.

Due to COVID there was no home game last season so it won’t be a case of wanting revenge or similar. Just a case of us winning this please?
