26-08-18 - Preview - Kidderminster Harriers Vs Stockport County

Saved a penalty at Curzon

Yesterday the Harriers racked up the fourth draw of the season at Curzon Ashton after falling behind to a first half goal and also missing two penalties. One of which coming in the dying minutes could have won the game for us to return home from Manchester with three points and the chance to climb up to eighth place in the table. Now we have to do that tomorrow instead as another part of Manchester come to us in the shape of a Stockport County side that lost at home to Alfreton Town yesterday.

Our first penalty came following an earlier one given to Curzon following a foul on Ryan Brooke by James O’Connor that was saved well by the Harriers keeper Brandon Hall. A few minutes later Ed Williams was bought down in the area during a rare foray forward for us. Joe Ironside stepped up to take the spot kick but that too was equally well saved by Cameron Mason in the Curzon goal.

During the second period we drew level through Ashley Chambers and then the chance for all three points was handed to Kane Richards following a mystery incident that no one else saw. Why Chambers didn’t take the spot kick we’ll not know but Richards kick wasn’t the best and veered well wide of the upright.

Now we need to beat a hit and miss County side at Aggborough tomorrow. As usual with them the fans are up in arms about them losing at home (tell us something new?) and they want heads to roll. They’ll still provide a tough test for us though.

It’s the last installment of Dan Bradleys suspension so I expect it to be the same starting lineup that we have seen in the last two games. Ed Williams, who has replaced Bradley, has performed well in his place and should keep his place. I didn’t notice any injuries picked up at Curzon so that strengthens to chances of an unchanged side.

County started the season really strongly with an emphatic 5-1 win at home to neighbours FC Utd of Manchester but since then they’ve struggled to score goals with only three in five games since then. A 1-0 defeat at York City was followed by a single goal win at Southport. After that they recorded single goal draws against Guiseley AFC and Bradford (Park Avenue) before yesterdays defeat against Alfreton.

Last time at Aggborough we easily beat Darlington 5-2 so can we remember that, put these draws to the back of the mind, and go for another win tomorrow please?
